A tooth-colored ceramic restoration used to precisely repair the area left after decay is removed. It preserves healthy tooth structure while restoring only the damaged portion.
■ Procedure Overview An E-MAX inlay is a restorative treatment in which decay or an old filling is removed and replaced with a custom-made ceramic piece that is bonded to the tooth. E-MAX is a tooth-colored ceramic material. Unlike a crown, which covers the entire tooth, an inlay restores only the damaged area, allowing more of the healthy tooth structure to be preserved. At DIAN, we begin by considering the most conservative treatment option possible. Based on the examination results, we will explain whether a composite resin filling is sufficient, an inlay is required, or a crown would be more appropriate. The final treatment plan will be decided together with you. ■ Who May Be a Suitable Candidate - Patients whose decay is too extensive for a composite resin filling but does not require a full crown - Patients with decay between adjacent teeth - Patients who wish to replace an old metal filling with a tooth-colored material - Patients who prefer a metal-free restoration ■ When Another Treatment May Be Recommended - If the decay is minor: A same-day composite resin filling may be sufficient. - If the remaining tooth walls are thin or the tooth has undergone root canal treatment: A crown may provide better protection. - If you have severe teeth grinding or clenching: Ceramic may be at greater risk of fracture, so gold or zirconia may also be considered. - If the decay has reached the dental pulp: Root canal treatment will be required first. ■ Treatment Duration and Recommended Stay Treatment usually requires 2 visits. During the first visit, the decay is removed, an impression is taken, and the tooth is protected with a temporary filling. After a fabrication period of 3–7 days, the completed ceramic inlay is bonded to the tooth. For international patients, a stay of 5–7 days in Korea is recommended. Even when several inlays are treated together, the number of appointments generally remains the same. ■ Cost Information The listed price is for one tooth. If the decay is deep and requires pulp-protection treatment or root canal treatment, additional charges may apply. Any additional treatment and its cost will be explained after diagnosis and before treatment begins. ■ DIAN’s Approach to Care Our Chief Director personally manages the treatment from diagnosis through final bonding. Your imaging results will be reviewed with you while the extent of decay and available material options are explained. Consultations and treatment are provided in private treatment rooms. Consultations are available in English, and DIAN is registered as a medical institution authorized to serve international patients.
