Gum contouring reshapes the visible gumline to improve the proportion between the teeth and gums. The procedure is designed with the overall balance of the smile in mind.
■ Procedure Overview Gum contouring is a procedure that removes and reshapes excess gum tissue covering the teeth to improve the height and shape of the gumline. It may be performed when excessive gum tissue makes the teeth appear short or when uneven gum levels create an asymmetrical smile. The appearance of a smile is determined by more than the teeth alone. At DIAN, the amount of gum tissue to be reshaped is planned by considering the balance among the lip line, tooth length, and gumline. The procedure may also be performed before veneers or restorations for the front teeth. ■ Who May Be a Suitable Candidate - Patients whose teeth appear short because they are covered by excess gum tissue - Patients with uneven gum levels that make the smile appear asymmetrical - Patients who need to have their gumline reshaped before receiving veneers or front-tooth restorations - Patients who want to reduce the amount of gum visible when smiling, when the cause is excess gum tissue ■ When Another Approach May Be Recommended - If excessive gum display is caused by the position of the underlying bone, upper-lip movement, or jaw structure: Gum contouring alone may provide limited improvement, and another treatment may be recommended. - If gum inflammation or periodontal disease is present: Periodontal treatment should be completed first. - If you are taking anticoagulants or other blood-thinning medication: Inform the clinic in advance. - If there is insufficient gum tissue available for reshaping: The dentist will determine whether the procedure is suitable after examination. ■ Treatment Duration and Recommended Stay The procedure is generally completed in one same-day visit and takes approximately 30 minutes to one hour, depending on the treatment area. The gums generally recover over 1–2 weeks. If veneers or other dental restorations are planned afterward, it is generally recommended to wait [several weeks] for the gumline to stabilize before taking the final impression or digital scan. Whether gum contouring and restorative treatment can both be completed during a single visit to Korea will depend on the condition of the gums and the length of your stay. Please discuss your schedule with the clinic when booking. ■ Cost Information The listed price applies to one tooth and excludes VAT. The number of teeth to be treated will be determined during consultation based on the area visible when smiling and the overall symmetry of the gumline. ■ DIAN’s Approach to Care - Our Chief Director personally conducts the diagnosis and procedure. - The expected gumline is reviewed with you before any tissue is reshaped. - Consultations and treatment are provided in private rooms. - Consultations are available in English, and DIAN is registered as a medical institution authorized to serve international patients.
